Cat is an obligate carnivorous animal. It means that they prefer flesh. Unlike dogs cat do not eat vegetables and food stuffs. Before buying any food item for cats keep in mind the following points.
- Cat loves meat. so buy a food that contains meat as its major constituent.
- Purchase only those food items that contains low carbohydrates because researches shows that high carbohydrate food is bad for the health of cat.
- Avoid those food items that contains by products as their ingredients.
- Do not purchase starch food for cats because it will make your cat fatty.
- Avoid Soy and corn food products as they acts as a carrier for various types of allergies in cats.
- Avoid only those food items that can fulfill the nutrient needs of a cat.
- Only buy balance and complete food for your cat. A balance and complete is one that is tested on cats and provides them all the nutrients required.
There are two types of cats food available in the market. These are:
Dry food : Dry foods are those which are poly packed and do not need further cooking. You can give it to your cat in the same form they are purchased. The cat owners generally purchase these types of food stuffs as they think it convenient as it do not require any efforts to prepare the food
Canned food: canned food are those foods which are also packed but requires further efforts to alter them in a form which can be eat by cats.
If you want to give your cat a dry food diet you need to cut down the diet of your cat to half.as these foods are carbohydrate rich which is not suitable for cat. While canned foods are generally low in carbohydrates which suits to your cat the most. But attention must be paid in buying a canned food product for your cat because all canned food products available in the market are not low in carbohydrate ingredient.
Besides this you can also buy some raw food materials according to your cat taste from the market and can give it to your cat.
